Language Of Mappila Malabar Muslims: A Study on The Orgin and Development of Arabi Malayalam Language and Literary Contribution
Name of Author :
Muhammed Sinan
Abstract:
India and the Arab world have shared enduring relations spanning from ancient times to the modern era. The Arabs, known for their maritime expertise, reached India early on, establishing significant trade and commercial ties. Their presence in India, especially in the southern regions like Malabar, was notable due to the regions coastal allure and abundant trade opportunities. The Malabar coast held considerable importance in earlier times, known for its valuable products such as pepper, woods etc. During the advent of the Arabs, particularly with the emergence of the Mappila community, they settled in India for religious purposes, contributing their script to the Malayalam language, giving birth to Arabi Malayalam. The Mappilas utilize Arabi Malayalam as a conduit to delve into diverse academic and scientific disciplines, as well as to foster theological understanding among Muslims. This language boasts a rich repository of academic and literary works, demonstrating proficiency across various domains, owing to its distinct cultural and literary heritage.
